Open the ball compartment
Take out the ball
Clean it
Inside the empty compartment you'll see two long rolers and one small one, all with lumps of dirt in the middle. Clean that up (fingernails are best, seriously)
All done :-)

Sometimes dirt gets into the ball and you can turn it over and some can come apart and clean it out with alcohol. If this does not work, you may need to replace. Discovery Channel has a cool one for like 20 bucks, which I got and it works well.
