I do not think convicted criminals should have the right to vote. Voting is just that... a right....
When they committed the crime they made a choice to not adhere to the rules of society (ie. the law) Therefore, their rights should be stripped from them upon conviction.

I think convicted criminals should have all rights permanently removed. They should never be allowed to vote again. They should not be allowed to live in in the country among the rest of us innocent people. They and their families should be sent to live on an isolated rock in the middle of the sea. They would have no support from the rest of us, but their struggles to survive could be televised and make instructive and interesting entertainment for us all.

There right to vote has absolutely nothing to do with their crime.

How can voting be infringing victim's rights?

When they get out , they will be returning to open society , a society they have been part of all along.

If they are mentally competent let them vote

why shouldnt they? They have rights just as anyone else.I have read of a prisoner in the UK who has taken this issue to the European Courts and won, after all, the government has control over his life on the inside just as much on the outside, and not all prisoners are kept for the whole duration of their lives, they have to get back out into society and fight for their place again, by taking his vote away, you have already demoralised and discriminated against him. To cast all prisoners into one category is wrong, you may have the opinion that he has taken away the rights of his victim, not all crimes can be viewed this way, and one cannot begin to discrimintae who gets a vote and who doesnt on that front.

Your rights in the USA can be taken away by the courts if you are convicted of a crime. People who obey the laws have more rights than those who break them...

it is incentive to obey the law.

in my book if your a crim..you are incarcerated, you forfeit your right to how the country is governed..we are paying for the upkeep of the bad guys..they should adopt chain gangs in the UK and get the b*****s working clearing ditches...and what about the human rights of the people they committed the crime against...put me in charge ill sort it out...and all this softy sentencing like for the people who only get a fine and driving bans ,for running people over..like the little girl left lying in the road, the other week,a victim of a hit and run..
