Funny... because alot of those intellectuals in the Enlightenment were bible thumpers. Being an intellectual really has nothing to do with religion even though alot of the well known intellectuals today are atheists. Being an intellectual requires you to sit down, study and read. If you're a scientist, you might need to put in some lab time. Now repeat that for some decades or so and you might come up with a new theory or so. That's pretty much it. Whether or not you're religious has nothing to do with it.

Ah! I don't think there is such a thing as an intellectual heart. And the only thing thumping around here is the bass on my stereo, it does that now and Zen!!!!!! :)

I think that the Enlightenment brought forth a lot of forwards in Math and Science. Most of our famous Scientist blossomed during the Enlgihtenment. A lot of our old therios were replaced with the correct ideas.

It is not the requirement of enlightenment to be in possession of intellect or emotion, but the necessity to recognize that these attributes must first of all be refined, in order to be left behind, in the search for the ultimate truth.

They are merely a raft which we must build in order to cross the stream. The raft is left behind when we continue our journey...
