I have worked as a tree feller, felling trees to feed paper mills in Scotland. I reckon over the years I have felled many tens-of-thousands.
However, to replace every tree felled, I have planted dozens to take their place.
The "junk mail" placed in the trash can goes to a recycling plant where it is seperated from other material and sent to the same paper mills. There it is processed and recycled into new paper after it is mixed with the pulp made from the felled trees.
Gordon`s answer above comes close. However, 1 Acre can hold
@ 5 foot x 5 foot = 25 square feet = 1742 trees

No trees would be saved. It's a common fallacy that saving paper saves trees. When the demand for paper increases paper companies plant trees to make that paper. If people bought less paper because they weren't making junk mail anymore, they would plant fewer trees.
Saving paper does not "save" trees.
But if you'd like to know how many sheets of paper one tree produces. Here is an estimate:
89,870 "sheets of letterhead bond paper" can be produced from a cord of wood, and 10 – 15 cords from an acre of forest. Thus: 898,700 – 1,348,050 sheets from an acre. Now all we have to do is figure out how many trees are typically in an acre. Random Google searches produce numbers like 25, 50, or 100. So let's say 25 – 100 trees per acre. Dividing, we get 8,987 – 53,922 sheets per tree. In summary, it varies, but 10,000 – 50,000 is probably a decent estimate.

its nothing to do with royal mail. they dont make it, they just deliver it and the reason they deliver it is because they get paid to deliver it. whenever i buy a magazine or something from a newsagent i allways shake it first so all the junk leaflets drop out.
