This question has been asked dozens of times - all with the same answer. We are who we are. Some of us just took the scenic route getting here.
Due to societal, family, church pressures, many of us followed the path that was expected of us, find a mate, OF THE OPPOSITE SEX, of course, get a dog, start a family, buy a home, etc. Some place along the journey we realized that something just wasn't right for us and began to explore our feelings. People of my generation and (of course before) stayed in the closet a lot longer. As each new generation comes, along with more education and more acceptance, the youth discover their true feelings and explore them at a much earlier age. That's why it appears that there are so many 'more' gay kids. They're luckier than we were.
For whatever reason we're gay, we are. I believe that in our little way, we help to cut down on the over population on the planet. LOL
As a lesbisn in my 50s, I would never want to go through my life pretending I was straight.

While most medical authorities and scientists today agree that most homosexuals are born that way, the theories of exactly how that happens are not concrete. It was thought to be genetic, but more recently there is research that points to it being developmental within the mother's womb, possibly pointing to hormones and antibodies her body produces. There have been numerous studies that show a difference in the structure of the gay male brain, and a gland called the hypothalamus.
At any rate, it's not a choice. In fact, if you talk with a few gay people, you'll find often that when THEY thought it was a choice, they chose to be straight, and that simply choosing didn't work. They were gay anyway. That's how it worked for me.

It is how you are born. Too hard a burden to live with, no one would "choose" this. Their are straight people, bi people, gay people and trans-gender. Most people who say that homosexuals have a "choice" in this matter are most likely bi-sexual to some degree and it is they who have the "choice" to decide who to be attracted to because they are attracted to both sexes. But someone who is gay can not be attracted to the opposite sex. They can go through the motions and marry the opposite sex and have sexual intercourse - but for them - it is not pleasurable.
This same thing happens when straight people become prostitutes or porn stars for a homosexual clientele. They can do the deed, but at the end of the day they are still straight and they are going to seek out a partner of the opposite sex.

I think we all have personal opinions on this. Here's my answer:
sexual orientation = biology + social forces
I think there is an interaction of biological AND social forces that result in a person's sexual orientation (straight, bi, gay/lesbian).
And I would go so far to say that some people believe that bisexuality is the default (inherent) orientation and that homosexuality and heterosexuality are learned. I suspect most men are, at some level, at least bisexual. I lived too long to believe otherwise.

everyone has a differing opion on this, and everything else. everyones makeup is different, I am in doubt, that most people, if any, would choose to be homosexual. just too much pain and judgement involved. If they realize that they are (homo-sexual), and they decide to be comfortable with it; maybe to some, this looks like "a choice." <<< to become homosexual, instead of a choice to accept it.

It is a choice. However, you don't have a choice as to how you feel about a person of the same gender. You can have those emotional / sexual feelings of the same gender, but don't follow through with it and even though you know you'll be unhappy, you choose the opposite gender for religous reasons or to hide from your own nature. You can choose who you date, but not choose how you feel about someone...Emotions come easy and it's hard to control how you feel...You can't for that matter...

My personal opinion is, they have as much choice as everyone else. Which is ZERO! I didn't make a conscious choice to be straight, I just am! I didn't choose to be. I was born that way. So were gay people. You dig?
