With an axe? Just what problem do you have with it? A modem is a modem - it's a MOdulator-DEModulator. It receives data from the cable and demodulates it to be comprehensible to your PC or TV. In order to validate the account it usually logs on to the service provider's server with a username and a password which are encrypted. The server may additionally use information about the line it is connected on and the modem's MAC address to verify the connection.

If what you want to do is to illegally use a cable company's services, then you are out of luck here. Go do your own dirty work!

It is possible to hack a cable modem both as the user to attempt to get more service than what your provider is giving and from the outside it is possible to gain access to a computer connected to the cablemodem. Both require a good deal of expertise to accomplish and both are illegal.
