Yes they were, l heard recently they were changing a lot of the city street names because many of them were related to the city's slave trade, one of them l think was Penny Lane, but there was a bit of controversy because the Beetles had a song about this, many people thought the names shouldn't be changed because it was like trying to cover up history, hope this helps.

yes, the liverpool maritime museum has a load of stuff relating back to the slave trade. I remember seeing the rings in the catacombs behind the pier head and in the old church just off the waterfront.
There is a big thing at the moment here about changing some of the street names as the slave trade had such an impact on the city that many of the slavers had streets named after them.
many argue that liverpool would not have been such a prosperous city if it werent for the slave trade. Thankfully liverpool is now a great place to live and it's being awarded 'capital of culture' status in 2008 for its rich ethnic diversity amongst its residents. I love it here!

yes slaves were in Liverpool.and slave were in England just not on mass like USA .there were slaves all over the world and specially in Europe.Liverpool actually had a major slavering port.in fact many white people in England has black descendants mainly because the salves were raped. Also some historians debate whether Liverpool's prosperity was due to the slave trade or other reasons.

Liverpool along with Bristol were two of the major slave ports. If your ancestors were slavers you would probably be living in a big country house today and be at least a lord.
