It's a contradiction. Why do you think it is?

toolman yes you're right about the connotation, you've understood. There's alot of hare-splitting here between the words whore, ****, prostitute , etc. Basically what i'm driving at is the name given to a woman who sleeps around (no gifts exchanged etc) but men (and other women) call her whore meaning in the same sense as a prostitute.

Some people are threatened bu women who are secure enough in themselves to enjoy sex when they want to. I personally think it's because they are envious and can't get laid. I have no problem with strong women, I actually prefer a woman that is secure in her own sexuality.

Oh, you know a lot of females who have sex "freely"? I would like to meet them.
I, for one, love having sex with women who enjoy having sex where emotions are involved.
Jokes aside - no, a prostitute is doing this for monetary gain. Her enjoyment of sex is not important - as long as the man gets what he wants. It takes the fun out of having sex. It is simply satisfying a need (like quenching thirst).
That's why men who have enjoyed sex with women do not go to prostitutes. It is an animalistic way to satisfy a need.
It is the mating dance around the women, the emotion attached to the art of making love and all other things that come with having sex that makes it so enjoyable. With prostitutes this does not exist.
Now, you see the difference?
Women having sex freely are not called prostitutes. Such women fall in love easily.

I think that prostitute has connotations of class while whore has connotations of dirtiness, seediness, unsophistication and lacking in intelligence. So the latter can be used as a general term of abuse. There are many easy lays that do fit this description, but there are also many who are just doing their thing without bothering anyone else.

Women who have sex "freely" are NOT called prostitutes. Women who have sex "freely" are usually referred to as whores, sluts, or skanks, etc. Prostitution is the commercialization of sex, ie you accept cash or gifts in exchange for sex.

When a female has sex freely she's not called a prostitue. She is a **** ($!ut). The solution is not to charge for it but learn to have more respect for herself. Love herself and her body and treat it as her temple, not as some tourist attraction where everyone can come inside.

If a woman is having sex freely she is promiscuous ... she has a healthy apatite for her physical being. Now if it is every day healthy then she could have a sex "problem" called a sex addict and needs therapy to curve that apatite so she will stay out of trouble ...

Actually, a female who doesn't charge is promiscuous, or a **** for slang. A prostitute is the who charges.

People confuse terms because they are too lazy to learn the proper terminology and how it is used. Yahoo Questions is a perfect example of the dumbing down of language.
