I am participating in a fantasy hockey league for the first time, but it has been almost 3 years since I've watched a hockey game. What do the scoring categories (i.e. +/-, points, SV, PPG, etc. etc.) mean? Anybody know of a site that explains this? Anyone got any tips for good fantasy hockey pickups?

Goals-Against Average (GAA) = (Goals Allowed * 60) / Minutes Played

Points (P) = Goals + Assists

Powerplay Points (PPP) = Powerplay Goals + Powerplay Assists

Shorthanded Points (SHP) = Shorthanded Goals + Shorthanded Assists

Save Percentage (SV%) = (Shots Faced - Goals Allowed) / Shots Faced

Shooting Percentage (SH%) = Goals / Shots on Goal

SV = Saves by a goalie
PPG = powerplay goals (goals scored by a player when his team has a man advantage....ie. the other team has someone in the penalty box)
+/- = when a player is on the ice and his team scores a goal (except when his team is on a powerplay) it is +1
when his team gives up a goal (not a powerplay) and he is on the ice it is -1.
I don't know what the etc etc is. but those are some of the stats.

dude where have you been? hockey kicks ***. Get kiprusoff if you can. He'll get you shut outs and he's by far the best goaltender. Gaborik will have a monster year with fellow Slovakian Demitra on the same line. Go with Demitra too. Pick defensive players on teams that score a lot of goals like Ottawa, Detroit, Atlanta, and the Rangers,

I can't really explain +/-. PPG (Power Play Goals). SV (Saves for a goaltender)
