Chevron operates in an intensively competitive market ; other oil giants like Exxon, BP and Shell + the growing threat from oil co's in emerging markets like Sinopec and Gazprom. The price of oil has risen to over $70 a barrel - thats an increase of 7x in 7 or so years.

It follows that all oil companies have increased their profits given the price of oil, but Chevron is not particularly more profitable than the other oil companies. Free market competition ensures that can't happen.

Surely its positive that a US energy company wants to invest in a poor African nation? Chad has a tremendous opportunity to benefit from its oil - so long as it acts rationally and obeys the contracts its signed.

dunno, but i do know chad has gone way over his budget on those bratwursts so he could probably use the cash... oh the diets of these boys.
