Avent makes a sippy cup that is okay for 3 months and over. It has a soft spout and is really slower flowing than other sippy cups. My daughter started really drinking from a sippy cup around 13 or 14 months old.
You can start potty training at any age, really. I started potty training my oldest around 20 months, my youngest I started potty training at 7 weeks. It is called "elimination communication" (AKA natural infant hygine and infant potty training) and it really works! My baby pees and poops on the potty every day, and I rarely have to clean up dirty diapers. It's pretty amazing, actually. A book I read "Diaper Free Before 3" recommends starting potty training between 6-9 months, while "Infant Potty Training" recommends starting potty training as early as from birth.
If I had to start all over again, I would potty train my oldest from birth as well.

Sippy cup when they can hold it with both hands and sit up to drink, usually around 8 months.
Potty training I don't even try until they turn 2. "Supernanny" says when they wake up dry from a nap that means they have bladder control.. well, I never looked for that, I just started asking if they wanted to use the potty like mommy and daddy and be a big boy or girl, and when they went for it we were all done in a couple of weeks. None of mine were interested until they were over 2.
Summer is better for training, if you live where it's cold. They can run around buck naked for a few days and not have to contend with pulling down heavy pants, that's hard for a little guy to do.

A training cup at about 6 months. Now with the potty training I would advise you to not even start until their 2nd birthday. They are finding out that adults that have anger issues and high stress were pushed to potty train before 2. Some are not ready until about 3 especially boys.

We always introduced the sippy cup when the child is old enough to hold a cup. Potty training will vary- usually start to train around 18 months.

My little boy started drinking from his training cup at about 5 and a half months and got the hang of it really quickly. Its best to get the cups with the soft soft anti drip teat thingy so that they can learn to suck the water out because first off all they do is bite it!
Im not too sure about potty training sorry as my little boys is still only 11 months old.

6-8 months with a cup. When your child can use two hands to hold things to his or her mouth, you can start on a cup. For potty training, look to see they are ready. Can your child nap and wake up dry? Or sleep all night and wake up dry? Or has very predicatable times of day that you know he'll poop or pee? Staying dry for more than 2 hours at a time is a sign. So is trying to take off a wet diaper, telling you they are dirty, or hating to be wet. Eat child is different. The biggest thing is to not push them. If your child is 3 and still not interested, then its time to talk to your pediatrician and see what they suggest. At 3 I pushed my son and he did fine. But I tried to leave him alone about it until then. Wearing big kid underwear and getting to pick them out all my himself was a wonderful incentive. He ran around my house for a week in a black vest and his new underwear. After that week I had a potty trained son and some wonderful pictures/ memories!

I gave my son a sippy cup for the first time at 5mos...if they can sit supported and they have good head control...start it, if he's not old enough for juice put water with a spoonful of apple juice in it for flavoring...as for the potty training....as soon as they start walking on their own, take them to the bathroom with you, let them flush and show them how to do it(if you have a boy, let the boy's father do this, girls go with mommy), then when they know when they need to go potty(some kids hide in a corner, some go to their room, some just stand there and smile at you,etc...) start the actual potty training.....
