Seems to be a world wide trend of not taking responsibility for your own actions. I see this more and more these days. Children are being brought up to believe that they can blame someone else for their short comings, from teachers for bad grades, to the fast food joints and computer games for weight gain. The pattern is established early in life and just keeps getting perpetuated throughout life.

I think because people feel they have to put the blame on someone other than themselves - they feel food is an addiction and that I guess they feel McDonalds is their addiction - so they blame them for not making it healthier - even though McDonalds is now offering healthier choices on their menu's if one cares to order them.

One thing I see people point out all the time though and it kinda gets my *goat* (so to speak). Now I'm not overweight - and yes I do go to McDonalds or maybe another fast food place occasionally for a change when I'm not in the mood to cook.
I will order a burger or something and yes I do order a DIET pepsi - am I fooling myself into thinking I'm doing something good for myself??? HELL no!!!! I prefer the taste of diet soda over the reg soda's - always have and always will - it has nothing to do with anything else and dieting. Yet you always hear people blasting about those that order diet pop with these meals - some just actually prefer it ya know :-)

WOW, LOADED QUESTION!!! I'm a food service professional, I've managed many restaurants in my life. People do not choose how fat they are by choice of eating habits, their eating habits choose it for them. That's the short answer. You said McDonald's, but don't blame them alone, all fast food chains are out to make money, and you are right, it's our choice to go there or not. People that are obese need to blame someone, so it's 'politically' ok to blame the fast food industry now. . If all fat people ate like I do, they wouldn't be fat. It's so simple. I'm 5' 6" tall, 140 lbs man. I eat at 2 pm every day, never earlier, because that would make me hungry later, then I snack at night while I'm drinking my beer. I excersise with as much sex as possible, and keep my mind occupied by fixing all the computers that I somehow screw up. I know I got a little off the subject, but believe me, McDonalds is not the problem, as you know. Thanks for the question. Ron

Some people just feel better trying to blame others for what is evidently their own fault, some people can't face reality and trying to ease their own pain , when they wake up and look at the truth maybe they can start to face their problem with sincerity, but most of the time people like to look the other way.

If you are exposed to fast food all the time without being told what are the consequences of eating too often -- You are not told the whole truth for making good judgement.

But I agree this argument is only a thin line away from omitting self-responsibility.

We as Americans were taught to be a blameful society. Don't accept your own faults but blame them on everyone else. That is why we need to become a more responsiable society, that forces people to take responsibilty for their own actions. We need to make sure we enforce laws. Not let people go with a slap on the wrist. Just like people complain oh it is harder to file for bankruptcy but it's so easy to go bankrupt. Well that's why you need to learn to be responsiable for your actions.

Actually lowcarber it isn't about the people who get the diet soda. It is about the people who get a Quarter Pounder, Large Fries, shake, piece of pie, and a small diet soda. You know the obviously bad for you type of meal, but oh a small diet soda to make up for the rest.

human beings could start up taking accountability for his or her movements. this is unfair in charge mcdonald's for the reality that they are lazy and grasping. you notice in assessment to cigarettes which incorporate addictive components, Mcdonald's isn't addictive. So a guy or woman can end each time they desire. They % to not. Then they and their parasite criminal expert pass after the corporate.

Blaming fast food for one's obesity is not taking responsibility for one's own life. Linked to that, people are looking for an instant "lottery ticket." The obese who sue fast food chains for "making them fat" are doing two things. 1) Their trying to get rich quick by filing a frivolous lawsuit and 2) Not taking responsibility for their own life. We choose our path in life. If we suffer because of the poor choices we have made, we have no-one to blame but ourselves.

People want a fall guy. IOW, a scapegoat.
You are right. If you do not want to, do not eat there. It is not rocket science.

Bigger the target, easier it is to get.

This is true of a lot of things in life. For one's own inadequacy people will blame someone else. Husband blaming wife because he cannot stop smoking. He will say ..."......she drove me to it....".It is his own weakness. Or, people blaming parents such as "....I have such anger or I am impatient or irritated at others... because my parents never taught me to control my emotion...".

Balderdash. After one matures, you learn to correct your mistakes if you recognize them or if they cause anguish in your relationship with others.

McDonalds? Same. This is a nation of choice. Do what you think is right. Someone else do not have to spoon feed your living.

My opinion anyway. As for myself, I NEVER stepped into McDonalds in many many years. That's the choice I have made.

Because people don't want to believe that they are responsible for their own actions and so if they are fat, it has to be someone else's fault. I have no sympathy for people like this. I lost 53 pounds by changing my eating habits. If I can do it, anyone can do it.
