ok rom drives only read they do not write
and a dvd-r is writeable a dvd-rw is writeable erasable and rewriteable
what you need to write on a dvd-r dvd+r dvd-rw is a dvd burner there are tons available that are easily installed to most coms and the prices on them have dropped down fairly low from when they first started to sell them

No way, unless your dvd-rom is in fact a dvd writer in the wrong package. I had it a few years back with an A-Open cd-writer.

The equipment you need is called a DVDRW. This is a "DVD Recordable/ReWritable" drive. Then, with a good one, you can burn DVD+R, DVD-R, DVDRW, DVDRAM, etc.etc.
Bet your next question is "what's the difference between DVD+R and DVD-R" ?
