Ha ha - you're obviously like me - leaving everything to the last minute! I've just put a list together of all the things my son needs for his new school. Then I got bored and returned to Answers *sigh*. I'm putting off the inevitable dash to Woolworths ...

Thank goodness that the schools are finally seeing sense and making sure that every child is at the same level to start with.
There is nothing wrong with those black plimsolls. They do the job and they are good for the feet.
I would imagine that you are complaining more about it than your son is! Kids need to know their boundaries of discipline - this is just another aspect.
When you went to school you probably didn't have to wear much of a uniform at all - now they are getting back to the real basics of school uniform.
By the way, if you take this attitude, your son will take it too. You are really not helping him much. Look at the positive side, not the negative.

School uniform (and the black plimsolls will be part of it), is not a bad thing as it puts all the kids at the same level, no jealousy about flash trainers or anything like that!

I'm a teacher and the main reason my school wants all the children to wear them is because they are all the same and that stops the competition. Also, I don't know how old your son is but do you know how long it takes a teacher to tie 30 pairs of laces? It can waste an entire lesson, especially at the beginning of term! I know they are horrible (I'm glad my son isn't that old yet) but it won't be long before you are forking out hundreds on the latest trainers so go with it and save the money!

My son is starting at his new school and I am gutted for him as it is compulsory for him to wear plimsoles, but not only that but in the summer months he has to wear grey shorts and grey socks for school! Whats that all about, plimsoles are bad enough but grey shorts.

Buy him some Dunlop Green Flash - that's what all of the trendies wore in my school and I've got a pair now. I think they're about £25ish

Black School? Am I the only one who questions the racism here?

is it really compulsory at school for him to wear them and are you financially poor? though please don't take this as an offence in anyway as i don't want you to think that is what i am doing. go and purchase your child a pair of nike trainers, though you don't have to go overboard in terms of the budget. £25-30 would get you a good looking pair of nikes.

Yes - my boy has just got a pair. I think they look cute - proper childrens stuff rather than horrible clumpy trainers.

if they are part of the school uniform, then i guess you do.

i know what you mean tho... they are pretty nasty...

however, not every kid's parents can afford a nice pair of trainers, so they all wear the same nasty stuff to avoid victimisation
