They fall over themselves to screen women's cervixes.

I can understand a female doctor balking at the thought of performing a digital examination but after all men examine women all the time.

I think you are mistaken, Paul R. I've had my prostate (actually a number of glands together) examined a number of times now. Mind you, I am in my late 40s. Usually, younger men don't show symptoms of needing their prostate examined. If you are sure that you need to be examined, ask your doctor to refer you to a proctologist (A doctor specializing in the colon, rectum and anus).

See the following links for more information on the prostate. (You may find the Wikipedia one interesting as it has diagrams which show you where the prostate is situated, as well as disorders that may occur.)

A final note: If you are able to relax yourself for the examination, it is not that uncomfortable.

There shouldn't be any gender difference in a physician's willingness to perform a rectal examination for prostatitis. There may be no need to include this procedure in every examination. If a recent test showed no enlargement, the test may be skipped. The insurance company's policies may govern the frequency.

hi Lioness, i tried to locate "objectified" and "objectification" interior the dictionary and no exhilaration. nicely, i'm no longer precisely confident I understand your queston, yet imagine i'd have an theory. besides, have you ever heard of the "bell curve"? it really is a curve it really is formed like a bell and does a strong interest of representing data. As for elegance, at one end of the curve we've the least alluring and at the different end the most. a similar will be authentic for income ... poorest on one area and richest on the different. interior the midst of the bell we've each and every of the classic individuals. i imagine what you're affirming is authentic, yet merely merely a reality of life. we've the whole spectrum for both genders. As for why adult men do not protest ... i guess they don't ignore that that's merely the way issues are and protests are not likely to regulate something. desire this enables!

I don't know your age, but most prostate exams are performed on men at about 40 years old up.
It's not common for young men to need an exam, unless specific symptoms suggest one.

I've never encountered a doctor who refused one.

Women may have more complications at younger ages and particularly at child bearing age.

Are you asking this because every time you ask your (presumably) female doc to do this she refuses?

If you have a suspicion that you have a problem with your prostate - then ask for a referral to specialist - they will undoubtedly stick their finger up and ruimmage around.

It is not pleasant, it can be painful, and it is pretty undignified...but hey wahtever floats your boat!
