True story: Our bandleader just had to look intimidating, he could hear every single instrument and if someone played a wrong note, he'd tell them about it, maybe three days or a month later. Nothing gets by him! That's Old School teaching that makes for a tight band. When our lead singer started to forget words to some of the old standards that he'd been singing for 50+ years, we had to start doing more instrumentals.

You know, I know exactly what you are talking about! I am the singer for a not so very cutting edge jazz band, and our percussionist ALWAYS leaves out the "badjak"!
Come on man, are YOU supposed to be a musician?

Stop being so bossy, for one. A happy band performs better than a band with a member that says.." It's MY band so I make the decisions!".. Why don't you try ASKING for their input?? You'll be surprised.

It's pretty hard. Instead of goo doo, try substituting doo doo.

Find a new singer, or keep practicing until he does it.

It is very very difficult... As someone said "if you do it your way there is no limit..." Let him do it his way and if you don't his way just replace him with another singer and let that one do it his/her way, too. If they do it your way, they will not sound good anyway...
