Design for web pages is Dreamweaver

Concept design in a graphics package like Adobe photoshop or Macromedia fireworks. Don't try concept design in dreamweaver too...limiting unless you have very good idea in your head.

Programming, my favourite is php.

As a designer I have used front page which sucks because it adds too much unneeded code. Nice to work with but bad. Dreamweaver is great. Also you can download NVU.com which was a free editor. Not sure if it's still free, but if so, would be a great cheap way to get familiar. Once you are comfortable then spend the money on dreamweaver.

Macromedia is by far the best, but difficult to use. I've designed sites using MS Word which is easy to use.

I've been using the free 1st page 2000 v.2.0 from evrsoft.com for several years. I particularly like its tabbed windows.

I've tried other programs but they are either over-complicated or lack the features I need - like the tabbed windows. One program I tried recently saved files and put xtra spaces and characters into the text. wtf was that about.

Evrsoft have now launched their new 2006 program but I haven't used it so can't comment.
