Has the SETI project ever,at any time, ever discovered any radio signals whatsoever from "any" source in the Galaxy that could be construed to have originated from from an intelligent source?

Anything at anytime...?

I read an article in Scientific American a few years ago that detailed the results of SETI so far. If I recall correctly, there is no evidence of a civilization of equivalent advancement as our own within a radius of ~100 light years, and there is no "super" multi-planet intelligent society anywhere in the galaxy, that we can ascertain by listening with our radio telescopes. The conclusion of the authors was that our galaxy is still in the "wild state", essentially un-settled and un-colonized by any intelligent species that we can hear on the radio. However, several very interesting signals have been received, mostly coming from the center of our galaxy, where ~90% of our galaxy's stars reside. However, no signal has ever been seen to repeat, which would be the clincher, if present. There WAS one signal coming from deep space that was DEFINITLEY felt to meet all of the search criteria for being indicative of an intelligent civilization. However, it was shown to be coming from one of our Voyager spacecraft, launched from Earth in the 1970's. So it seems that we may in fact be the first intelligent race to inhabit the galaxy, which in some ways is fine by me. Soon we will be colonizing all of the Earthlike or Marslike worlds in the galaxy, in my opinion. And if we come across any less well developed societies in the process, then WE will be the aliens!

A confirmed signal would be big news; you would know about it. SETIs standards are pretty high, however. They find lots of candidates but have not had anything that looks REALLY good yet.

SETI@home is a distributed computing project to analyze boatloads of data for SETI signals. There is a list of newsletters here about followup observations of some candidates and will give you a bit of insight into the standards that something must meet to be considered a "real" signal.

This wiki article summarizes some of the requirements for a signal to be determined to be "real" and also describes one of the more promising candidates.

Yes, in 1977 i think some interesting signals were found and the observer scribbled WoW around it. But nothing after that. Of late experts have analyzed it and think its most probably a man made signal from earth and not from outside.

Just imagine if that was from else where and we had established contact ......
