To play games.!!!
Any program that uses a lot of drawing will benefit from a graphics card. One your processor is freed of the load to process your display, it can run other programs...

well if you dont have a graphics card your be asking why is your monitor screen black
coz your monitor is connected to it
having a good graphics card with open (GL)
on it as games now are coming out with open(GL) that is more better then running a game with directx
directx will be out soon as open (GL) takes over then every one will have to up gread there
graphics card

Mac OS X features a highly optimized and fully modern implementation of OpenGL. OpenGL is the industry standard for high performance 2D and 3D graphics, and is the primary gateway to the Graphics Processing Unit (GPU). OpenGL is specifically designed to support the rich graphics needs of scientific visualization, medical imaging, CAD/CAM, and entertainment software.

Optimizing OpenGL Data Throughput on Mac OS X
If your application uses OpenGL, read this article to learn general OpenGL optimization techniques, and specifically how to optimize your OpenGL code to maximize vertex data throughput.
Westlake Ports Halo to the Mac
Using performance tools from Apple, Westlake ports Halo, the popular sci-fi epic game, to Mac OS X in record time.
OpenGL Tools for Serious Graphics Development
Apple's best-of-breed OpenGL tools help developers locate, analyze and debug graphics bottlenecks, making the Macintosh a uniquely powerful platform for OpenGL development.
OpenGL for Panther
"Panther" brings significant OpenGL optimizations, new features and improvements in the OpenGL Profiler and OpenGL Shader Builder development tools. Developers should check out details on our newest features, optimizations, tools, and support for the latest display cards.
OpenGL Shader Builder
Shader Builder is powerful tool to help you leverage the programmable features of the latest GPUs. New for Panther is support for low level fragment programming. Once programs have been developed they can now easily be exported into Xcode projects.
OpenGL Profiler
OpenGL Profiler is the Apple’s best of class tool to assist developers in debugging and optimizing their OpenGL usage. Profiler now has support for attaching to running processes, the ability to dynamically override OpenGL functions using scripts, and browse textures and programs. Other powerful features include breakpoints and execution controls, OpenGL state and call stack analysis and collection of real time driver statistics.
OpenGL Driver Monitor
The Driver Monitor provides real time access to the inner workings of the Graphics Processing Unit. Through it developers can track VRAM usage, hardware stalls, texture upload sizes and many others, thus accurate performance pictures. The Driver Monitor, as with the other OpenGL tools, is included with a standard install of Mac OS X v10.3 “Panther” developer tools.
