The excuse " we tried to outlaw it before it didn't work" won't work, because if we can outlaw marijuana and various street drugs then alcohol can be included too and yes they still get their hands on the illegal drugs but it works to deter it in the beginning for the most part! But, why do we outlaw anything to begin with? if it's because it hurts you inside, then alcohol should be number one! it is mind altering and rots your insides out and makes you totally dependant on it- no different then "illegal" drugs! It causes thousands of deaths in accidents and violence, so whats the deal why is alcohol NOT picked on? and recognized for the horrible drug it is and made illegal?

By allowing easy access to alcohol, we are allowing the youth to access it and abuse it. If taxes are an issue, then throw out all the politicans that are for being part of a legal profit off a horrible drug. Finally, the one drink is enough theory -is it WORTH it? all the millions who can't say "enough" and drive home drunk and cause another highway fatality? The government needs to step up and protect society witht his like any other drug and STOP the sale of it.

People are under the impression that alcohol is safer than other drugs. A person can drink responsibly and not be a danger to himself or others, while a single dose of some types of other drugs can be lethal or addictive. It is true that some people become alcoholics and are a real danger, but it doesn't make sense to ban it completely for everyone for the mistakes of some. You could also say that thousands of deaths are caused by car accidents, but the answer isn't to ban cars. Yes there are people that are irresponsible and will put others at risk (driving while drowsy, cell phone use, eating, shaving, etc.) but there are consequences that aren't so drastic. Same with alcohol. It entirely depends on the user as it does with the driver.

Because too large a percentage of the population uses (or abuses) alcohol. Alcohol has a place in history going back many thousands of years, it is too ingrained in our culture to be banned successfully. That's why it didn't work in the 1920s, and why it wouldn't work now. The other drugs, now maintained as illegal don't have the historical trends or sheer popularity that alcohol and tobacco do.

Also, alcohol actually can be consumed responsibly, and without great consequences. If things were to be banned for fear of what someone might do with them, then cars, airplanes, spray paint, matches, kitchen knives, and baseball bats should be banned too.

I think all drugs should be legalized and sold in pharmacies or liquor stores. No, I don't do drugs but most of our crime in America comes from illegal drugs. If they could get it then they wouldn't have to rob and steal for it. As far as alcohol goes, the question I ask is, where did personal responsibility go? We should all be able to choose good or bad. You can't save people from themselves and the government shouldn't try to.

Because with alcohol comes a sin tax.

No one wants to pay more taxes, and if you ban alcohol, the tax money lost has to come from somewhere.
