I took my motorcycle in for repairs after an accident. The repair shop subletted out the painting portion of the repair. I paid the repair shop in full for all the repairs which included the paint job. The paint job was unsatisfactory. There were scratches in the paint where tape was removed. Who is responsible for the work done the reair shop or the person it was subletted to. And who do I contact for reimbursement?

Ultimately it is the shop that you took your bike to for the repair. If they chose to farm out the work then they become responsible for the sub-contractors work. Your contract is with them, not anyone else. I am an insurance adjuster and deal with this kind of thing of every day, you have a fight on your hands because the original shop is not going to accept that liability easily. Stand your ground with them because it IS their responsibility.

You take it back to the repair shop and let them, know what was
unsatisfactory, then they can take up with the paint shop. If the
repair was unsatisfactory, why did you accept it and pay for it.
It makes it sound like you are just trying to get some money back
without giving the paint shop the chance to correct it.

The shop you left your bike at is ultimately responsible.... You were ultimately responsible for looking the bike over before you paid and signed off on it. If you didn't point out the poor paint job before taking it back- you will have a fight on your hands. Take it back to the shop you picked it up from and have them look at the problem. If it's not an obvious, glaring screwup they may be willing to work it out between them and the paint crew. It may involve you giving them the bike so they can touchup or repaint. Don't expect any cash back on this one!
Good luck, I'm not real hopeful they will take care of the issue.

You only need to contact the repair shop. If there is anything to be negotiated with the paint shop, that's the responsibility of the repair shop.

You are the repair shop's customer, the repair shop is the customer of the paint shop.
