The Philippines is a beautiful country that I have yet to visit. I can tell you that if I could ever afford to go to the Philippines, it would not be for sex tourism. I have studied this alot and it is so sad what these girls do for money because they are truly decent people. I think the Philippines would be far better without the sex industry, because there is so much to the Philippines other than what these predators want. I would assume that there are alot of Americans because of what I've heard from a friend of mine in the Phils. but there are also alot of Australians from what I've heard, followed by europeans. This really is a sad yet close topic to my heart. I cannot explain here on Yahoo the details, but one of my best friends was at one point, connected to this topic to a certain extent. I won't explain, but she like many other Filipinas is loving, and kind at heart. Most people will not understand that these girls did not ask to be in this situation. But because they are so dedicated to their families, they will do anything to make a little money and help send their brothers and sisters to school. It is so sad but also amazing to see these people do their thing which is horrifying, in order to do the best for there families. People should also understand that they choose to do this and are not held against their will. They realize what they are going into, because in reality it is one of the only options. I have no shame on them and feel that they are owed the utmost respect. Nobody on Earth has the right to run down these girls for what they do. I wish that more people could understand, because I'm thankful that I do. I'm also so thankful for my friend I speak of, and so proud aswell. Their hearts are so strong and they are such good people. I don't know what else to say,,,, but these girls are so strong at heart. God Bless them all

I would have to say that it would be devastating economically. There is far more information on the sex for sale trade in Philippines than any other tourist activity. Without the sex-tourists, the filipinos would have less money coming into the poor households, making them even poorer. There would be less tax revenue from the expats that exist there because of the trade. The Philippines would not do anything different without them or else they would do it now. I do not think that morally it is right for a woman to be forced to sell her body. But I do think it should be thier right to choose. Of course anyone doing anything sexually with a child should be castrated and left to bleed to death. I think Koreans are the number one sex-tourist just by basing how many of the bars are Korean owned.

Why, if you're single or travelling without your wife, don't youfeel attracted to the opposite sex when you travel abroad? It all depends on your sense of self-control. Besides, every tourist supposedly spends at least $100 per. Paid sex would bring more, so it's better for the economy. But not for the social fabric, though. Especially for a Catholic country like the Philippines which is naturally xenophobic, having been invaded many times. Look at Thailand, where the culture is more open to sex. Or Japan, where sex is not frowned upon, it's even made popular by comics (manga). Japan used to be the main sourcer of sex tourists, but I think Koreans now outnumber their Japanese counterparts.

Sex tour may be rampant in the Philippines but the money from it would hardly make a difference one way or another to our economy. You're kidding yourself if you think a handful of losers who couldn't find a woman in their own country to put up with them, actually contribute that much money through tourism.

I'm no prude. The ladies (and gents) who work that job can take of themselves. If they play their cards right, they may even end up finding a half decent guy and running the household or business of the john (It not an uncommon occurence). They can also say no if they don't like the guy. It's their choice.

Btw, I'm not talking about the guys who actually come here looking for a wife. That's different. In most cases, I think they're sincere.

But if there's one group of sex tourist, I'd like to hunt down and hang by the balls over an anthill, it's the pedophiles. I don't care how much money they flash around here, I WILL see them locked up in one of our lovely jails.

Edit: When I was 12, a Brit tried to get cute with me. I hit him and ran because I knew what he was after. He disappeared by the time I got my dad. But if i see something like that happening to a kid around here, I am not going to be the one running away.

The Philippines don't need sex tourism just to attract tourist we have more than enough excellent and wonderful places we only lack the proper marketing to promote these places. I think Thailand is quite popular in sex tourism.

I would guess most sex tourists are from the USA, followed quickly by European Union countries, and then followed up by Japan. I know there are a large amount of Australians that visit the Philippines also.

Japan imports more Filipina's than the others, for dancers, and I don't know what else. (But I suspect some of them end up in sex-tourism in Japan)

Interesting question, I don't think the countries economic loss would be HUGE, but I think the loss to many families would be.

I've chatted with girls who have worked in the bars in the Philippines, and most of them are very nice, good people, who came to work in the bars for one reason; TO HELP THEIR FAMILIES. My GF lives near Angeles, where there is a large sex-tourist business, and she knows a few girls who work in the business. I've talked to some of these girls in person. Believe me, they are truly decent and good people, working in a job they are not proud of, but are proud to be helping their families. It is truly amazing to visit with some of them.

Is it worth it? Wow, how do you answer that.. Ask the families that the girls help support. Not people here on Yahoo Answers who probably don't understand how much that added income makes a difference in their lives.

And yes, I've studied the Philippines sex industry. Hopefully in the coming years there won't be an economic need for it.

It is not worth it. Both predator and prey in this situation are always worse off after the fact. The women and children end up psychologically scarred for life. All the money they earn will not take back their innocence. Even the pervert male predator suffers eventually. Either at the hands of the law, an STD and/or (unquestionably) from the worsening state of the mental disease that he suffers from as he grows up a sick sad loner bereft of love from others. Everyone is a victim.

Looking back to our ancestry. The scenic spots, heritage and culture that we are proud of. It would be better if we promote eco tourism and medical tourism rather than compete with Thailand where sex-tourism is rampant and to them it doesn't matter...but to our culture it does...being the only Catholic nation but SEX-tourism is not worth it. It will degrade the soul, dirty the image of children. men and women who will be sold for sex and promote other sickening problems like drugs as well...Sad but true. Americans, Japanese, Koreans and Brits maybe are the top three nationalities coming in the Phils. to have a vacation........ - yunesa@yahoo.com

I know that some of the girls here in my place work in the bars. They send the money home and the kids can go to school. Maybe a lot of kids will not get an education without the bars. Also the cell phone business would go bankrupt because the bar girls all have the nice cell phones. The girls lose thier virginity to the Korean and Japanese guys.
