I got a laptop last week (advent 7098) everything has been working find except last night. i was recording some music using audacity and the programme crashed, i was able to end task the audacity and restart the laptop. however when it restared i had a static sound coming through the speakers and 7 short fast beeps every 5 or so seconds( the sound also comes through headphones). Ive have done virus check, ad-aware scan and a windows defender scan and no problems have shown up. Does anybody have any surgestions?

It sounds like a drivers / software conflict.
Click Start, go to Programs, Accessories, System Tools, and click System Restore.
Choose Restore to an earlier time.
If the problem occurs again then I would completely un-install Audacity, and use another mixing/recording program.

goto Microsoft update have it scan for new updates that aren't priority there may be a new driver that needs to be loaded I had a few I loaded...same thing had this computer for a week, but the software could have been loaded almost six months ago or just new updates released while it was on the shelf...I'm having problems with my antivirus program on occasion though...stupid computer

This sounds like system beeps. These occur when there is a hardware fault. Go to the laptop manufacturers site and or refer to your manual and look for system beep/codes and it will tell you what the issue is.

try system recovery first. if this doesn`t work, it could be your sound processer or sound card. i have an advent laptop and the same problem accurred after 2 weeks. it was the processer in our case. if system recovery doesn`t work, take it back to the shop for replacement or immediate repair, at their cost.

i'd be tempted to do a roll back. it's most likley to be a confliction between the drivers and the sw you installed.
