Hey im a Year 8 S.E.A.L student and i need some information on linear graphs. I know a fair bit about them but id like all the proper termonology and levels of difficulty.

Hi,
A linear graph is one which produces a straight line when plotted on a pair of axes.
The equations of all linear graphs can be re-arranged into the form y=mx + c, where 'm' is the gradient (i.e. the number of units you must go up or down for every one unit you go across), and 'c' is the intercept (the point at which the straight line graph crosses the y axis (vertical - up/down)
You should be able to:
* find the gradient and interecept of a straight line graph, and thus its equation
* re-arrange a linear equation into the form "y=mx+c"
* draw straight line graphs given the equation
* recognise that graphs which share the same gradient are parallel.
* begin to explore the relationship between the equations of lines which are perpendicular to one another (their gradients (m) are inverse to one another e.g y=2x+3 is perpendicular to y=1/2x-4)
1/2 is the inverse of 2.

linear graphs are lines that when plotted on a "graph" they produce a straight line

the equation for a linear graph is y=mx + b, where m is the slope of the line (rise/run) and b is the y-intercept, where x is always 0, x and y are the coordinates obviously
