Journalism will pay less but if you get a job that involves travelling (i.e not working for the metro) then the life experiences could be invaluable. John Simpson is a personal hero and I sometimes wish I went into journalism, instead I'm in a different media.
I also did a couple of sciences for A levels but soon realised that my life would be devoid of creativity even if it does pay a decent reliable wage.
If you have a flare for journalism and a sense of adventure in your spirt then go for journalism. A lot of journalism involves travel so once you're in you can apply for jobs anywhere on the planet.
Good luck!

Journalism does not pay well but the big challenge would be finding a job. Be a traveling nurse. Go all over the place and make tons of money.

the business of journalism is quite diverse. ranging from financial to local news. Most journalists work as freelancers, which means running your own business basically. most journalists specialise in certain subjects like science, finance, politics, etc... Payments for articles and salaries (when employed) are diverse and depend on type of media, prestige of a magazine of newspaper, your educationlevel, seniority, etc... Most important is off course the work that's involved. If you are inquisitive, like meeting and talking to a lot of people, you like writing under the constant pressure of deadlines. Being a journalist you have to communicate a lot in order to get your material. This means using the phone, e-mail, fax, etc.. But also meeting people in person. This involves travelling. Be it locally or going abroad. this depends on the type of job you're on.
if you like meeting, helping and curing people while earning a very good income you better consider becoming a doctor.
