A kindred spirit is someone you seem to know, even though you only just met - not like a soul mate, but in the same sense. Its the kind of person you seem to just know would be a good friend. They are the people you can laugh easily with, share secrets with and find out that they have the same secret. When you say something that might be taken the wrong way, they are the ones who get it the first time, and understand.
I too think that they may be someone you met in another life - maybe they were your sister, brother, mother, father, husband, wife, or true blue friend before, and though their new body may be different, it is their spirit that yours recognizes and remembers fondly.
The only important thing is that they rarely disappoint you, and when they do, its like an old hat, even the first time, and you can build lasting friendships with them and feel safe doing so. That is my difinition of a kindred spirit, and (if you believe in reincarnation), my own soul is a pretty old one I believe, and I have a lot of kindred spirits.

Fantasies created by spiritual fruitcakes. There is no such thing as a soul mate - or one perfect mate for every person. There are probably thousands of people out there that each and everyone of us could call a "perfect match". The true partner comes from not from finding your match, but from the act of committing fully and soley to each other.
