That's because the place you release it from is the only place it knows where to go. You need to start releasing it from the place you want it send messages to. This should cause it to fly back to your place and then you can relay messages to the place you want it to go. Though, this is just a suggestion, but try it and see what happens.

I had the same problem. Release it at your house, then it will fly away.
