well many times so far. you can be hit wicket just once in an inning b'coz you bat once! otherwise it's infinity.
getting out by hit-wicket is really awkward. in the 129 years of test cricket there'll be just around 5 - 6 batsman hit-wicket while in the 35 years of ODI cricket they'll be around 1 or 2.
t he last batsman getting out is the man who is like a snake loosing his charm. he may be stripped off as captain - and not only that he's been in ball tempering - none other than inzy. inzamam-ul-haq as in full was bowled a good length & line (on stumps) by monty panersar - the spinner of england and he tried to sweep it when he lost his ballance and fell over the bails and jumped but it went in vain.

if either batsman is out 'obstructing the field', any runs completed before ... they could hit the ball as many times as necessary to preserve their wicket.

as far as I know even all the batsmen in one inning could be given out on this basis.
