Is portugese similar to spanish? is der any regular Yahoo messengr users hu can teach me portugese?

Where are you located? I am currently taking Portuguese classes in San Diego. I know there are other places in California offering courses either through college, private lessons or language centers. Not similar to Spanish, but somehow related to it.
Portuguese, Spanish, French and Italian all come from Latin.
I cannot commit to teaching you, but, when you are finally studying it, you can e-mail me and I will give you my messenger ID so you can ask me when having a doubt.
P.S. Start with one of those language books for travelers, with an audio CD if you can find it.

There is a free language lesson that you can download, it's called, "Before You Know It 3.6", you might be able to find Portugeuse on this site, it's likely anyway, there was a list when first found it. I downloaded it, you can purchase a more detailed study of each language but the free is a good start!
