When a dog is happy it wags its tail. A dog with 2 tails equals extreme happiness. Double the pleasure.

Dog With 2 Tails

The Two-tailed Dog Party (Kétfarkú Kutya Párt) is a joke political party in Hungary. It was founded in Szeged in 2004.

All of the electoral candidates are called István Nagy. The name was chosen because Nagy is the single most common surname in Hungary, and István is a very common first name.

The Two-tailed Dog Party is not a registered political party, but planned to participate in the 2006 elections. The party made the following promises: eternal life, world peace, one work day per week, two sunsets a day (in various colours), smaller gravitation, free beer and low taxes. Other promises include building a mountain on the Great Hungarian Plain.

The party is on good terms with another joke party, the Fourth Way, which is led by two birds. However, there are some disagreements between them, since Fourth Way plans to abolish bird flu, and this is opposed by the Two-tailed Dog Party, in accord with virus rights principles.

The election posters can mainly be seen in Szeged. Most of the posters feature the candidate, István Nagy, who is a two-tailed dog, with inscriptions like "He is so cute, surely he doesn't want to steal".

I have a book of idioms and adages. The person who said the entire saying was "As happy as a dog with two tails," is correct. And yes it does mean extreme pleasure, excitement, etc.

You learn something new every day. I never heard the expression about the dog with two tails. I'll have to try it out.

You know, it's amazing how often we use expressions like that and don't even know what they mean. I never knew what "Beyond the pale" meant until I visited Ireland. And I always thought clams were happy because they look to me like they are smiling!

I believe the entire expression is
"As happy as a dog with two tails"

The answers about happy dogs wagging their tails are correct.

Here is another expression that really makes no sense if it has been shortened:
"Happy as a clam." This is meaningless.
The entire expression is:
"Happy as a clam at high tide."
High tide is when clams are safest and can ingest and digest at peace with the least danger from predators.

Forgive me - I'm on my soapbox now.
"The proof is in the pudding." This is idiotic - sports figures use this expression often.
The old British expression is:
"The proof of the pudding is in the eating." And, that makes sense.

thanks for your question - it sure woke up the ol' brain this morning.

Yes, I think I can help you.

Most dogs have either no tail (to speak of) or one tail. when fleas become a problem, dogs often get to chasing their own tail and sometimes learn this as a fun thing to do in moments of boredom. People who have nothing to do often engage in meaningless nonproductive passtimes which could in a way be compared to a dog chasing his or her tail.

Now, if you wanted to drive one of these tail chasing dogs really crazy, give it two tails to chase. It would go round and round, jumping and rolling in the never ending strugle to capture both tails at once. And, our nonproductive person over there, well he would never get up to the batter's box in the wonderful baseball game of life. He would be stuck trying to solve double the number of useless trivia puzzles or games.

Ok...happy. i think when a dog wags its tail so much, you start seeing "more tails". that's why people say a dog with 2 tails.
(you know, i might be horribly wrong)

it basically means that the dog is so happy one tail wagging doesn't convey the level of happiness
