Why did my external HDD's File System go from NTFS to RAW?

Is there a way to change this? When I try to open the drive it says I have to fomat it and asks if I want to. I've tried formatting it but doesn't work (full or quick). Help!

I have the same problem, you didn't choose "Disconnect USB Hardware" from system tray before you actually turn the device off right?

That teaches me to use Linux for USB stuff. The drive already lost its format and only option is use hex editors to pickup bits and pieces of the files.
