I'm talking about Europe here because I'm not so familiar with hostels in the other continents. Most of the hostels in Europe do not have legal age limit, but you would need credit card to make advance booking. Some hostels do have age limit of 30 (I heard of one such hostel in Amsterdam) but basically if you convince the stuff that you are in the same things as youngsters, they will book you in. I worked in the hostel for some time and we booked in people from school groups to 90 year old man and everyone went along just fine. Hostels are usually much more flexible than hotels, so even if there is some kind of age limitation if you are very keen on staying in that particular place, staff will usually try to accommodate you. For list of good hostels in Europe, check http://www.hostelseurope.com/

Depends on the hostel. Some youth hostels are strictly that -- age limit 25. Others are open. A surprising growth spurt has been showing up in the 60+ section of hostelers. They used to do 'elderhostel' but now they are hitting the regular hostel circuit and having a ball.

It depends upon the hostel, each one has it's own, some are youth hostels meaning under the age of 20 or 25 others are family hostels, some having rooms for couples with young children.

Not that i'm aware of it may vary from hostel to hostel but i don't think there is a limit if you are a resonable age (Except if you're like 3 or something)

Some hostels do have age limits, and might give precedence to younger travellers (especially Youth Hostels in Europe), or exclude them (if they have a bar in the premises), but most hostels will welcome guests of all ages.

yes i recently went to a convention where the person could not book a room until they were 21 they asked for proof of age and she was married. She could not sign in as well until her husband arrived home from leave he had to sign them in.

you may easily stay on my own once you're 18, yet at sixteen i think you the two would desire to be staying with yet another grownup, or probably deliver a signed letter out of your mom and dad, and doubtless stamped with the help of the yank Embassy.

i think its 18 because you have to be a legal adult with a means of paying-that doesn't mean paying with change in a piggy bank that you've saved up for 2 months
