if you want to make the files yourself, type this out in Notepad:

This is my website!

Here's a header

Here's a paragraph. Next is an image!

Save it as "index.html" If you open it in Firefox (or Internet Explorer or whatever browser you use) you'll see a simple webpage.
That'll get you started. Check out the first link below if you want to read more about html.

Google (among others) offer tools to create a website online. check out the link below about it.

The only other thing you need to know is that you need somewhere to host it. This means, after you make the website, you need to put it somewhere so people can access it. If you paint a picture, nobody sees it if it's in your house. You need to put it in an art gallery or at a coffee shop or something, right?

Some places offer free hosting. You can try the third link below to see a list of places that host for free.

if you want to just create a blog, then try blogger, livejournal, wordpress, or search for "blog service"

good luck!

uh ... with style?

I have to admit knowing the answer and being tempted by the ten points. How do I know you'll actually come back and make a decision?

Web sites are great -- all you need is a server to post your site. If you want to pay some dollars (pretty tiny dollars) you can even have your own domain name.

The code is HTML but there are plenty of code generators to take your words and images and translate them. Even Word does this with the option of ... save as html.

But, really, if you want a dynamic site then using blogging software the the key. The buzz of today is user interactivity and a website will only provide a static site.

Luck to ya.

The best start would be to go to your local community college and take some classes on begining and advanced html. Of course, you could just try to wing it...the worst that will happen is you make a big ol' mess. Try geocities first. It's free. Also, you can save microsoft word doc's as web pages. But that will make crude web pages at best.
