A noble girl was often betrothed to a boy, sometimes a generation older than her, shortly after birth. Church law stated a girl could not get married before the age of 12. However some nobilities made exceptions to this law, and married their children at much younger ages, usually for the wellfare of the families. There is a story of a young Lord Berkley in the late 1200s who was married to the daughter of another Lord, both at 8 years old. By the time they were 14, they were parents. However, this was not the norm. If a girl married before the age of 12, the families would not allow the couple to sleep together until they decided she could bare children "safely", and the marriage could easily be anulled by either family if they chose to. On average however, most noble girls married around 13 or 14. The more common people rarely felt a rush to marry, so they might not get married until their late teens. Any lady still single by the time she was 21, whether noble or common, would be considered a spinster. Hope this helps. =)

In medieval times, the nobility arranged marriages for their children, and engagements were arranged when children were only a few years old. But marriage did not usually take place until the girl was 11 or 12, which was the age of puberty.
In many 'civilized' countries in the world, marriage is still permitted at the age of 12, with parental consent.

it varied from country to country. In Italy it was not unhear of for girls as young as 12 to be marrried, while in England it was usually over 16. Poorer women would marry later in life.
