I have very light skin and I just got a job that requires me to be in the sun a lot. I don't want to get a tan because I my color of skin ( not that there is anything wrong with darker colored skin) that is not the problem but I just don't want to get darker. If i use a sun screen or sun block will that help me to not get darker?

Well, sunblock is far more effective in preventing sun damage and coloration changes than sunscreen. Also, a sunblock with a higher spf rating will block more than a sunblock with a lower rating. Additionally, sunblock is more effective over long periods of time (like working) when it is reapplied regularly. All of this information and the practice of shading your skin by wearing long sleeves and pants, should minimize the amount of UV rays that actually interact with the pigment in your skin.

Sun screen just blocks out harmful UV rays, it does not prevent you from getting a tan. The only way to prevent tanning is to wear clothes that cover up areas you don't want tan, or stay indoors. Even being in the shade you still get some sun. Wear a hat or some sunglasses.

You must reapply amply to avoid any darkening of the skin. The SPF rating is actually how long you can go in the sun without burning. So SPF 15 will let you go 15 more minutes in the sun without burning and SPF 30 will let you go 30 minutes. Of course, sweat plays a part. So my suggestion would be get the highest number you can find and still reapply at least every hour.

The highest SPF can't prevent tanning or sunburn if you spend a ton of time in the sun. It might be days rather than hours, but it'll happen (the tanning, not sunburn unless you miss a spot)

Best to go long sleeves etc.

Just staying out of the sun. I have the same problem, and I am really dark now, even though I used a lot of sun screen.

The SPF value u see on sunblocks only tells you the amount of minutes it affords UV protection..before u start to burn... but no matter how much or how high the sunblock you use ur still gonna tan.

If you don't want to tan, get the water babies tan lotion, it is like a 50 spf, and works well, I am allergic to the sun and that is what I use when I go out in the sun.. good luck to you,..

sunblock/sunscreen will only prevent you from burning afterwards. truth is, it actually tans your skin even more. i would recommend wearing protective clothing, like a hat to cover your face for example.
