Also a day of mourning for Native Americans,
well for me anyway,I am N.A. and I don't rejoice
for the land of the free. since we still block people from our borders, we have made a huge buisness out of prisons and there are alot, close to 100 in florida alone not counting federal , city and county facilities. we can't survive off minimum wage in any of the states, we can't live on or off of our land because people claim ownership of the land.

Its your choice to celebrate it or not. July 4th is a day marking when the country gained its independence, the country that you are living in. Whether or not blacks were free or not. Drop the we issue, this is 2006, there is no more we issue. Blacks are free and as Americans we are all deemed now as one. You should be thankful that we are still not under British rule. That in itself is a positive note to be proud and thankful of to some.

If that is the case, then the Chinese who were slaves and built the railroads shouldn't celebrate either. How about the Irish and Italian slaves that dug the Irish Canal in New Orleans? Being Native American, my family celebrates any modern holiday, especially the 4th, because it represents what we have now...not what happened years before I was born.

Now your are the natives of your motherland and are supposed to obey the laws of that land. This is the social discrimination amongst the peoples of America which is causing the problem.
It is the Islam which has given equal Rights to the citizens of the Islamic countries. These discrimination's can only happen in the countries which are not following Islamic rule.

You are not free? You can go to college a lot easier and cheaper than non-minorities. You were not a slave. I doubt that your parents were slaves. Do not dwell on the past, but live for today. Stop finding excuses and make your world what you want it to be. Remember, You are never too old to become what you might have been. *smiles*

I think African Americans need to get over the "we" part. We are all one now.

You are just as free as any other person in the USA with the exception of those in prison. I don't see any slaves around anymore, do you?

You live in this country now. Either you are an American or your are not. It's not about black, white, hispanic, or any other race. It seems to me, lately, the racial prejudice has been tilted the other way...

Well my family doesn't. Why would our family celebrate INDEPENDENCE DAY when we were not even free?! It just doesn't make sense! Yet some black people still have the outdoor BBQs and celebrations with fireworks.....................................................
