I don't think one is better than the other. I think each has its place and time.
I think that part of learning to live a graceful, peaceful life is learning that sometimes we are the ones to give, and sometimes it is our turn to receive. I think for some people, the receiving bit is very hard, especially on their pride. But think of it this way--sometimes someone else needs a chance to give, as well, and sometimes they need to give to us, for whatever reason. Our job is to recognize it, and to receive with an open heart, just as we would if we were giving.

Some people would say it's better to give than to receive. Others say it's better to receive than to give. I'd say both. People willingly give but somehow their subconscious mind tells them they give because they want to receive a sense of fulfillment even if they don't receive any material reward.

To give of course it really makes you feel good inside!! Making another person smile because of your thoughtfulness, there is no better feeling in the world!! Love it.

I think it's definitely better to give. Just to help someone out, bring a smile to their face, it's worth more than recieving something yourself. Even if what you give makes them just a little bit happier, it's worth it. It could often help them more than you realise.

I'm a giver and what you find in the end is people realise it and just keep taking . I find it hard to recieve or take from anyone. Not really a good thing I think reciever or takers seem to have it easier.

human nature -- does not matter how much you recieve - you are never satisfied. cause of this nature of our's, what we recieve can not keep us happy for a considerable period. thus, it's not that good.
but when we sacrifice something for somebody. we automatically get a feeling of greatness for ourselves. there is a feeling of self ego embedded in the feeling of selflessness. and it gives us long lasting peace cause we remember it for longer time and we feel good about ourselves - where as recieving makes us feel that we owe that person something(which again hurts our proud in ourselves).
i've tried even sharing my food with people for days and stayed partially hungry. its not that iam praising myself but sacrificing for somebody has great values - moreover god loves ppl who are giving and he takes care of them himself (what else do you need other than being near to our father's heart)
