One of two answers for you. If is says service required it may need an oil change or it wasn't reset after the last one. It is just an warning light and no cause for concern. It comes on when you need an oil change, but don't rely on it to remind you. count your mileage instead. Most dealerships will turn it off free of charge and it takes less than a minute to do so. If it is a picture of an engine then it has registered a code into the memory and should be looked at it may or may not be serious. Check you owner's manual if you have one for the explanation. If not sure call the local Audi dealership and inquire.

Enigneer from Audi of America sez:
It does in fact mean that its time for an oil change. The "service reminder" comes on every 5000 miles. Providing it has been reset after each oil change.
If it is a yellow orange colored icon like that looks like a little engine, often called the "check engine light" or "MIL", then you have a problem with one of the emissions control devices.
In any case, it sounds like its at least due for an oil change. Since the car is new to you, you should take it in for service so you know exactly when the last oil change has been done. Enjoy!!

Odd quirk in European cars... try tightening the gas cap and restarting your car. In many makes if it hasn't been clicked several times the 'service engine' light will come on. I own a 2000 Saab 9-3 turbo and had it happen the day I bought the vehicle.

Could be an emission sensor check out one of the large auto parts places like Auto Zone they have a device that can diagnose the problem. They don't do it for all cars so call first. The service is free because they sell the sensors if they have to be replaced.

It needs to be serviced. Hook it up with a female Audi and leave them alone for a few hours.

It means you should've chose a different car.
OoiOoiO....Auto Zone and their little computer only test the alternator and battery, it can't tell you why a light is coming on. They can't diagnos anything.
