I'm married with four children and I'm in the military. My wife has no education, no desire to go to school and no desire to work outside the home. Sometimes I wish she'd hire a hit-man because she'd be more wealthy when I'm dead from all the insurance. If I were to leave, she'd get (1) child support for all then children (2) she'd be getting alimony because she can't support herself (3) Half of my retirement pay (4)the cars, house and everything in it. Sounds like to me that this woman has it made and the guy gets screwed out of everything; plus he has to work for the rest of his life till he dies.
I think Katherine needs to look at both sides of people's reasons. Tony, I respect what you have to say and I've forgave and forget but trying to fix things don't always work for everyone. Tina hit the "nail on the head". Lily, I know people who've gotten divorces and are better friends with their Ex's now than when they were married, so I'm gonna have to disagree with what you had to say.
It's more than just paying child support. I'd do anything for my children.

No, If a man wants to leave a wife and child he will just do it. There is no logic as to how much money it will cost, he just wants out. Paying child support is never really the issue, the real problem is the fact that two parties will have to maintain contact and agree on things. Which is a joke because if they couldn't get along while married, how in the world does anyone expect them to get along after the divorce when there are all the old issues to deal with plus all the new ones (his new girlfriend and her kids, her new boyfriend and his kid, visitations, less money then ever before, selling of the family home) Divorce is not a solution, it is just another mistake people make.

You shouldn't put a price on a marriage, but you know, they could be doing him a favour warning him to think twice about doing something that would necessitate his leaving. It is expensive, and in more than just monetary terms. On the other hand, it is far better to cut your losses and leave when it is irreparable, it's better for the kids not to grow up in a poisonous atmosphere.
Do guys listen to that advice? Probably not. ;)

Why are divorces so expensive.........because they're worth it! If you are truly unhappy and miserable....I think you would glady pay the child support to get out.
It might make you reconsider or try to fix things.....but I don't think it really keeps a guy around when he is miserable. I've heard of guys sticking around because they would miss out on raising their children.
Just my thoughts....

Yes. Divorce equals financial ruin for most men. So he is staying with you to keep from doing that.

Because there are a lot of stupid women who will stay married to their jerky husbands.
People say things like that because they are stupid and they only men who would listen are also stupid.
I'm sure it happens.
