I really like the Saw series of movies. Like you said, the storyline is very good and imaginative. And while there are many horrific scenes and lots of gore, what is very appealing is that relatively common people are involved, and the design of the situation, and the design of the contraptions are quite intricate. The is a real method to the madness, and the story is played out well. Not a movie series for everyone, but there is lots to like about these.
