Mark Burnett said he wanted to present the 'most diverse cast ever'. But the 5 member 'Hispanic tribe' contains only one obvious 'non-caucasian' (the younger woman appears to be of mixed race). The rest are clearly caucasian (white) Hispanics.

So we have 5 whites in the caucasian tribe, and 4 in the 'Hispanic' tribe, for a total of 9, outnumbering all other races. So much for 'diversity'. Why couldn't Burnett have found 5 'Hispanic' persons who were clearly of mixed race?

All of this points out the absurdity of the very artificial 'Hispanic' classification in the first place. Why should white Spaniards be classified as 'minorities' anyway? Their ancestors are as guilty as the English. And the survivor cast of 'Hispanics' shows just how white they can be.

Be honest - without them telling you who was in what tribe and without seeing any last names, who could tell who was considered 'Hispanic' and who was considered 'white'? Isn't this concept just disgusting and divisive? EW!

Hispanic is a term denoting a derivation from Spain, its people and culture. It follows the same style of use as Anglo indicates a derivation of England and the English. The usage of Hispanic as an ethnic indicator in the United States is believed to have come into mainstream prominence following its inclusion in a question in the 1980 U.S. Census, which asked people to voluntarily identify if they were of "Spanish/Hispanic origin or descent". Key words, Origin or Descent.

Not all Spanish people are dark skinned. Would you rather they all be 'Mexican' or some other nationality instead of a race? Cubans are of Hispanic origin, yet many are light skinned. Dominicans are Hispanic, but many are black. Just because a race is mixed doesn't make or not make them Hispanic.

The Hispanic world covers the southwestern US, All of Central America, the Western countries of South America and Spain. Many of those people are "White" looking, "Black" looking, or a mixture of the two.

My anscestors came from England, Scotland, and Scandinavia. Guess what, I'm American. But that is where my people came from before America if anyone asks, and that is all the term Hispanic means, where your anscestors came from.

What does being or not being guilty of anything have to with not being a minority? The Majority of people in America are white, but in the world, white people are a minority.

After a few episodes, the tribes combine anyways. What does it matter how they start out... They have done random, women, men, old men, young men, young men, old women. Race is only logical, the idea came from the people, and the people in the episode agreed to it. Besides, its good clean fun!

The whole thing is disgusting and divisive, not to mentoin ignorant. As many have pointed out, 'Hispanics' can be of any race, and many (if not most) are fully or partly caucasian. This idea of the Hispanic as a racial victim is simply American politically correct white liberal guilt run amok.

Michael asked: "What does being or not being guilty of anything have to with not being a minority? "

Being guilty or not guilty has nothing to do with being a numerical minority of ocurse. However, the characterizarion of white Spaniards as victims of racism is absurd, as they are anthropologically caucasian (NOT people of color) and have historically played the role of victimizers, not victims. They are as guilty as the English in so far as enslaving blacks and terrorizing Indians is concerned. In fact, the Spanish only stopped enslaving blacks at the persistant insistance of the English, who banned the practice long before their Iberian counterparts.

The label Hispanic is an ethnic label, not a racial one (such as White or Black). As Census documents never tire to repeat, Hispanics can be of any race (white, black, or a mixture of races).

For example, the famous actor Andy Garcia is a white Hispanic (eg. of European Spanish origin). Baseball player Sammy Sosa is a black Hispanic (of black African origin). Actress Rosie Perez is an example of a 'mulatto' Hispanic (a mixture of black and white). Most Mexicans are 'mestizo', a mixture of white and Native American or 'Indian'. Many Hispanics proudly claim three or more races as part of their ethnic heritage.

If it was called diverse it should be a mixture of all races right across the spectrum. I am Maori and I am dark and my sister is fair does that mean she is not Maori. Why do you or anyone else try to define people by any criteria.

I am glad to see that there are United Statesians that know that we Latin Americans belong to different races. But there a lot of ignorant people in your country. They see a white hispanic but for them this person is not white simply because he/she is "hispanic/latin american". Andy García, Ricky Martin, José Canseco... For them they are not white, simply because they are stupid enough to know that USA is not the only multi-racial country in the world.

Hispanic is not a race, it is an ethnicity. Get an education. What would you call a pale , blond , blue eyed Spaniard?
