I use both as I have a MacBook as well as a PC.
I'd say Mac's are better for surfing the web since you don't get spyware/viruses that you would on Windows. Nonetheless, a lot of software is also not supported by OS X (Mac's operating system). It's give or take pending on what you're using it for.
If you're a parent at home with kids, I'd get them a Mac just because of all the surfing they'll do. You'll save yourself the pain of system slowdowns due to malware.

You don't have to worry about viruses, networking is easier, basically everything is easier on a Mac. All software is included and very easy to use. They just run. I have had mine for a couple of years now and only restarted like once. They are extremely fast and powerful. They are much more advanced than pc's. They have connectivity for the future, such as FireWire 400 and 800. Mine has optical audio in and out, can run (2) 23-inch monitors, have a total of 800GB hard drive space, and I can RAID them. I can have a total of 8GB ram and I have gigabit ethernet for fast network transfers.

Macs with OS op's are written without holes but are exclusive in the communication dept. PC's are much more versatile but arte much more prone to vulnerability. You have to weigh your needs vs. your wants on this one.

There are several advantages...but I think the one that tops them all is that they are almost completely virus-safe. As far as I know, there has only been one virus to infiltrate a mac, and it was caught and 'taken care of'.
