The name depends on what region they're in.

Bigfoot (Sasquatch) is typically located in the US and Canada and Yetis are typically sighted in Asia (China, Russia etc.)

Yeti or abominable snowman is the alleged man/ape creature living in the Himalaya mountains. Yeti is the locals name for the creature.

Sasquatch or Bigfoot is the alleged man/ape creature living in the western/northwestern USA and western Canada. Sasquatch is a Native American term, while Bigfoot came in to popular use by people who described the only physical "proof" of the creature's existence, which are plaster casts of the big footprints it left behind.

Both legends are very similar.

Bigfoot will bring snacks. Sasquatch will borrow your phone and stay on it forever. The Yeti will mostly sit on the couch and stare back at you, feigning interest while the clock on the wall ticks away.....

Whatever you call it it scared the HELL out of my brother, my next door neighbor and me when we were 12 years old camping in the woods near Alabama.

We were on a weekend camping trip about two hours asleep when our dog started just FREAKING out. My dad was in the tent next to us and yelled "Be still I think its a bear"

We were DEAD still and watched out the crack between folds in the tent. Dad yelled looks like a damn grizzly!- But we all knew there were no grizzlies in N Alabama.

We were looking at his back and IT DID look like a grizzly standing up. My little brother squealled and it turned around and looked DEAD at us! My friend crapped his pants and I peed a little bit myself. My little brother passed out for thirty minutes. But it turned and went away. It probably lasted only about 20 seconds but it seemed like 30 minutes.

My dad RAN to us and said what did you see what did you see? I said I saw a Bigfoot. He said you are crazy boy there is no such thing. He checked my brother who was awake kind of but out of it for almost 30 minutes.

After that, we all stayed together in one tent with a shotgun and a fire in the hole. No one slept but my brother.

We went home in the morning a day early and my brother had nightmares for almost 6 months.

My dad told us NEVER TELL anyone what we saw because he said people would say we were crazy.

Years later, when I was graduating high school, my mom was telling me about all the things in my life and she mentioned the Bigfoot incident. I said you mean the bear? She told me my dad had told her it was a Bigfoot and he would NEVER go camping again. He had always told us it was a bear. Just a bear. Looked bigger because we were small and laying down. He was big and standing up blah blah blah.... we wanted to believe him so we kind of did but thought we were crazy.

We never camped again and I never will again. I have two daughters in high school now and I have not told them. My friend grew up and went to jail for drugs. He tells the story but people think he is just a druggie. They don;t realize he WASN'T a druggie when he was 12. He became a druggie because this freaked him out.

My brother and I have mentioned it a few times to each other only. He is not married. I always watch the side of the highways when I drive thinking I will see it again.

I never have mentioned it- and you are now the first person I have besides my wife.
But fortunately- no one knows who I am on this so I won;t get any WEIRD phone calls.

I am now 42 years old and will never forget its eyes. I have a nightmare/dream about it occasionally. And NO I will not talk about it anymore for you or for a book or anything.
