It depends on the state they lived in. Each State has it's own laws. But absolutely you need a lawyers advice, because depending on how many children the parents had, the inheritance will be split. And you can probably assume there will be a disagreement between the offspring. But that is not the only possible problem area. Is there a will? Like did your mom and dad leave a will. That is a very legal document and you need help with it if there is any problems. Where is the will? You need to find it, but you need a Lawyers advise even more.
To find a lawyer in your area, call the Lawyer referral program. It should be listed in your phone book at the beginning of the listings for lawyers.
Sorry for your lose, hang in there. Good Luck. You need to act right away, do it now.

Any child whose parents put into the Social Security system for a number of quarters will receive a monthly check. That is true whether the parents were murdered, or died in any other way. Of course this money is not given directly to the child, but is given to the legal guardian of the child to care for them.

There isn't much more, though there are some victim's funds in some states.

Nothing. Like only $250 from the government social security death benefit. Everything they get would have to come from a will. If there is no will they will become wards of the state and be put into foster care or up for adoption.
Sad but true.

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD); depression; nightmares; panic attacks; age-regression; need for psychological help. If their parents named a guardian, then their guardian(s) would raise the children. They would receive money from their parents' life insurance (provided they carried some), and social security insurance until they reach 18. It is really tragic; such a difficult time in their lives.
