he got into a fight with a cat? maybe a ware-wolf?
possibly a raccoon? or perhaps a midget jumped on his back.... or he hasn't healed from the last time you scratched his back 2 days ago?

Gosh I love how some people just jump to the conclusion that he's cheating based on one thing. OK, now could it be that he scratched it himself? If this is the only "sign" you're seeing, there could be a more "innocent" explanation for this. Do you have a cat? What is the nature of his job? I know that my husband sometimes come home with scratches and bruises due to his job. If he's cheating like some people suggested, do you think that by asking him he will actually tell you the truth? If (and only if) there are no other reasonable explanation for this, then it would be a good time to start looking for other signs.

Try to eliminate the possibilities of the backscratcher and the cat first and ask him about it also. It could be that he just scraped his back on something sharp. BUT if you're certain that they're nail scratches then something may be up and you must get ready for bad news.

what does your husband do for a living could it be that he lifted something pointy and it scratched him are you sure they are nail scratches and are they in a area that he could reach on his own that he could of just had a bad itch and scratched it that bad if not then worry but before you jump to conclusions why not just ask him point blank what happened to your back i seen what looked like scratchs on your back and i know that i didn't put them there where did they come from and see what type of answer he gives you if it is a believable answer then believe him if you are in doubt then tell him who ever she is stop seeing her and go see a marage counsler good luck

It simply means he scratched his back. Why do you have to doubt him? Unless you have some solid evidence to prove that he is flirting with someone, don't have any worries.
