My wife and I might be there in the middle of January for the Houston Marathon and we'd like to know if there is anything to do. Otherwise I'll choose another city's marathon to run... most likely Miami.

Oh gosh there really is a lot to do here, just depends on what your interests are. One website that lists a lot of tourist info is at http://www.visithoustontexas.com/home/ - that lists specific events.

http://cbtcws.cityofhouston.gov/events/Events.aspx also lists a lot of different links to find things to do.

Our convention center, the George R Brown (aka the GRB) has a website at http://www.houstonconventionctr.com/ .

There are also events every weekend at Reliant park - http://www.reliantpark.com/ .

If you're not looking for something organized, Houston as a large museum district -
http://www.hmns.org/?r=1 for the museum of natural science,
http://www.hmh.org/ for the holocaust museum
http://www.mfah.org/main.asp?target=home for the fine arts,
http://www.camh.org/ for contemporary arts,
http://www.mhms.org/ for the health museum,
http://www.ricegallery.org/ for the Rice gallery,
http://www.cmhouston.org/ for the children's museum,

In terms of music, there's a large theatre district here.
A good website to go for that is http://www.houstontheaterdistrict.org/ which lists just about everything.
http://www.dacamera.com/ for classical music,
http://www.houstonmetdance.com/ for the Metropolitan Dance Company,
http://www.houstontx.gov/joneshall/ for Jones Hall which includes the symphony
There is a lot more music related but too much to list here.

For sports we have
the Houston Aeros at http://aeros.com/ for hockey,
http://www.wnba.com/comets/ for the Comets in the WNBA, and
http://www.nba.com/rockets/ for the men (Rockets)
There are others, such as the Houston Texans for football and Houston for baseball but that's out of season by then.

There's the race park at http://www.shrp.com/ for the horses and http://www.gulfgreyhound.com/ for the greyhounds.

That's really just a small sample of ideas. Without knowing your interests, it's hard to know what to suggest. Houston is the 4th largest city in the U.S. so there's plenty to do, it's just knowing where to find what you're interest in.

Plus, our marathon has a really flat course - practically guaranteed to give you a PR! And typically great weather in January.

NASA is just a few hundred feet from Clear lake. And within a few miles are Kemah Board Walk, Armond Bayou,100 good restaurants,Galveston bay. There is more to see and do in this one area then you could possibly do in one or two days. It is just 25 miles south of Houston and 25 miles north of
Galveston. In a half hour you could be on the beach or in the museums

there is lots of things to do. go online and check out Houston's visitor and convention bureau. there are museums, parks, a zoo, tons of good restaurants, shopping malls, and the beachin Galveston is less than 40 minutes away. The weather can be anywhere from 75 degrees on down. It may be dry or rainy.

We have some of the most wonderful museums here. We also have a great zoo. Galveston or Kemah really are not that far if you want to see the coast. It's pretty mild here weather wise in January so it's perfect to be outdoors.

if you want a theme park/boardwalk: go to Kemah
if you want to go shopping: go to the Galleria
if you want to go skateboarding: go to the X Center in downtown
if you want to see museums: go to the museum district
if you want to see a park: go to Herman Park
if you want to see a interesting part of the city: go to midtown
if you want to see a game: go to the Toyota center, reliant stadium, or minute maid park
if you want to see battle ship and a big monument: go to the San Jacinto Monument
there are some more places, but i'm not that detailed, sorry

houston can be really boring in january. it might be depressing, dreary, rainy, cold, but it's not that bad.

go to houston, and have fun!

Go to Miami, the weather will be better for you and more to do.

Their is nothing to do in Jan, in houston. It's just nasty weather here in Houston then. It's morbid then.
