SAP AG is the largest European software enterprise (and third largest in the world). It was founded in 1972 as Systemanalyse und Programmentwicklung by five former IBM engineers in Mannheim, Germany. The acronym was later changed to stand for Systeme, Anwendungen und Produkte in der Datenverarbeitung ("Systems, Applications And Products in Data Processing") and since the 2005 annual general meeting the company's official name is just SAP AG.

It's an "enterprise software". It is an expensive software package that a company can purchase to manage every thing from human resources, accounting, warehouse, CRM (Customer Relationship Management), etc. and tie them all into a unified database. So that each department can seamlessly communicate with the other. If one dept. updates information (I.e. quantity or cost of a product that you sell) all of the other departments get that updated info in real time.
