The inside of the earth contains several layers of material. The top (which we walk upon) is called the crust (composed of the least dense calcium and sodium aluminum-silicate minerals) and goes down about 30 kilometres in depth. The next layer is called the mantle, and is made of molten lava (composed of iron, magnesium, aluminum, silicon, and oxygen silicate compounds). This mantle extends down to the depth of 2900 Kilometres. Next is the outer core. It is very, very hot, (made of mostly iron and about 10% sulphur) and goes down to the depth of 5200 Kilometres. The very center, which although being extremely hot is also quite solid due to the extreme pressure is called the inner core. It is made mostly of iron and other heavier and denser materials.

Probably not what you expect. Were you to determine mass acceleration at a distance of 0.716 miles from the center of our planet, you would find that were a mass released in that location it would accelerate past the speed of light in one second. In our sun the distance is 400 miles from its center. Either mass converts into something we have no idea about, below this level, or there are vast areas where nothing exists within our sun and planets. http://360.yahoo.com/noddarc the last part of "The Problem and Repair of Relativity" there is a short writing entitled "An Experiment you can Help With" that explains how this is able to be proven. It has to do with demonstrating that the force of gravity is an energy form, and if so what the ramifications are.
