How do i pause the sims2 for ps2?

I know it's stupid but when i try to pause it the games just goes to the sims stats page for all the goals and stuff but i want to put in cheats to unlock the gnome and the code has X in it but when i hit X the game starts back up

you don't pause the game - do it on the main game screen. you can't put the cheats in by using pause. they changed that from the first sims game. I had the same problem when I first played it lol. just enter the code while your sim is standing still. they'll work, trust me.

I got the sims 2 and i dont think you could pause just leave it the stats screen
