Im getting a tracfone...... are they good? Can I use other phone cards besides the tracfone ones (ex: cingular pay as you go, verizon, etc.) Thanx!

It depends on your needs.I bought one years ago when I was on the road alot,in case of emergencies. I have never used all my minutes since I've had it but they're still there if I need them-and no monthly bill. You can't use cards from other companies but you can add minutes online,so it's really easy.

We have 3 tracfones. You can't use other cards.We talk on them infrequently, so we don't want to have that monthly fee and don't need a lot of minutes. I have ben satsified with them until recently. My son had been wanting a camera phone for a long time. He also wanted to be able to download coool ringtones. Fianlly, tacfone came out with the V261. We got one for him. That was at the end of July. He activated the phone. The next day he went online to the tracfone site and purchased a ringtone. He followed the directions when they came up on his phone. The message then said, try later, network down. He has tried repeatedly. Same result. I have called tracfone. They seemed to have no clue, but gave me another # to call. I always get a busy signal on that one. I emailed them, explained the circumstances. They didn't reply. I emailed again, explained. They answered 2 days later, telling me I could go to tracfone site , download a tone and follow directions. Boy! That was a huge help. I am at this point ready to trash all 3 phones and get something else. We only bought him the new phone because it was advertised as being able to buy ringtones. I have a V170 and have purchased ringtones for it, but this new V261 seems to have problems.

no you can't. you would still use your minutes. I have one and like it because I don't have to have contract and don't use it as much. If you haven't activated it yet I can send you a promo offer thru them and it will give you 120 min( I think they bumped to that it used to be 100) free for activation and it will also give me a 120 free min. my husband knows more about it but basically I think all I need is your email address I go to tracfone site I send you an invite. when you activate it and use the codes they give you it will take about 4 days max to activate then get code from them and punch it in. you can usually do all this online to for activation. I have called them before and had them walk me thru it. you can verify this by going to tracfone and looking around there or go to ebay and you will see people selling the promo offer. Tracfone is no good. They are so expensive. Even the lady at the store told me dont get it. I owned a tracfone and they have the worst customer representives.Refer a Friend is a joke. They always give me the run around. Wanna use a promo code? They will tell you they dont like you getting extra mintues.When the rep is giving you a hard time,they tell you they MUST know why you wanna speak to their supervisor. If they dont like the reason you give they wont transfer you or pretend to transfer you and it will disconnect you.You can only use tracfone airtime cards.Please Im begging you on my knees, DO NOT GET A TRACFONE. If you go against my word you will be sorry. Dont say I didnt warn you.

ou can not use the other pay as you go cards for other providers.
I tjink tracphone is the worst prepaid service around.
Horrible custoemr service
inconconvenient methods of payment
expensevie rates.
